Comments on: Ubuntu Linux on a HP nx6125 laptop

Hi,
I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if I could look over your configs/notes for suspend to ram on this laptop.

I am running ubuntu 7.10, and the binary ATI drivers. Does not work at all, and im running out of google hits to look at :P

For the fingerprint reader to work properly under windows, you need 2 packages i think.
the “hp protect tools security manager” and the fingerprint module for said manager.
After having a nice conversation with the support guys, they sent me this link:

which works nicely with me :-)

i tried before with installing this and that, and after an eventual re-install of windows ;-) i downloaded only those two packages (concerning fingerprint stuff), and it worked.

i’ve xp professional on my nx6125. the fingerprint reader doesn’t function.. it says problem with the hardware when swiped. i’ve installed AuthenTec Fingerprint Driver from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=495147&prodSeriesId=471753&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093

Hi dudes, trying to install Ubuntu on my HP nx6125 I’m always being locked when the setup process, after manually partioning the HD, begins to copy files; this process seems to stop when arriving at the 28%.
I’ve tryed different options when doing the partition but always with the same error during the copying process. I’m wondering if this could be because a fault in the CD files.

Any clue?

ctrl+alt+fn+f9 anf f10 works with bios F.0D

if you update to bios F11D, ctrl+alt+fn+f9 and f10 will NOT work anymore

You can change brightness in X (HP nx6125) using ctrl+alt+fn+f9 (down) and ctrl+alt+fn+f10 (up)

I have had Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Opensuse on my HP Compaq nx6125 (Turion64, Xpress200M) both i386 and AMD64 versions) Currently I am running openSuse 10.2 64bit and have a pretty stable and well working system with 3D acceleration (propietary ATI 8.32.5 driver).
I just wanted to pop in and say that ever since I started to begin the installation with “vga=791 noapic nolapic” my world exploded: FINALLY IT WORKS WELL!
fans work, termalzones, processor speed scaling (or what it’s called). I never use suspend so no idea with that. WLAN with ndiswrapper and 3D with prop. drivers.
Tonight I’m going to jump back to Ubuntu i386 (I have some problems with running 32 bit windows apps in 64bit suse and I love apt-get) and go for coompiz and XGL. Wish me luck :)
